About the Artist

Celeste grew up drawing horses on any surface she could find.  In third grade her teacher brought in books with paintings of Rosa Bonhuer, assuring her that is she was diligent she too could draw horses like that.  Not sure that will ever come to fruition.  In high school she won a state-wide, then national Scholastic award for a wooden sculpture.  While she continued to draw she didn’t start oil painting until her 50’s.  She is self-taught and is influenced by artists such as Birger Sandzen and Rose McEneny.  She lives in Centennial Valley, where she makes her home is inspiration for much of her work, the animals and the landscape provide constant sources of images daring to be captured.

The wire animals, or 3-D doodles as some people call them, started while she was monitoring the morning grain of her horses.  Making sure the chow hounds didn’t bully the skinny horses away from their meal she began to bend the hay wire into shapes.  With encouragement from friends she began to enter them into galleries and shows where they have been well received.  She enjoys mimicking the animals movements into wire pieces.
